KIS Astana is a growing international school offering a high-quality education to students aged 3 to Grade 9. We are committed to fostering a love of learning, inquiry, and global citizenship in our diverse student body. We are currently seeking a dynamic and organized Whole School Librarian to join our team and support the development of literacy and inquiry across all grade levels.

Job Summary:
The Whole School Librarian is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the school library, supporting teachers and students from early years through secondary school, and promoting a reading culture aligned with the IB philosophy. The librarian manages the library’s physical and digital resources, including the Koha library system, and supports students in developing information literacy skills.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage the library collection using the Koha library management system

• Organize and maintain the library space as a welcoming, student-centered environment

• Plan and deliver weekly library lessons for students aged 3 to Grade 5

• Collaborate with teachers to support classroom learning and promote curriculum-aligned reading materials

• Support secondary students and teachers with research, referencing, and academic resource access

• Lead the promotion of reading through book fairs, author visits, reading challenges, and other initiatives

• Manage book checkouts, returns, cataloging, and inventory control

• Provide training and support for staff in accessing and utilizing library resources

• Maintain up-to-date records and reports on library usage and development

• Coordinate with vendors and external partners for acquisitions and events

Requirements:

• Degree in Library and Information Science or a related field (Master’s degree preferred)

• Experience working in a school library setting (preferably international or bilingual)

• Familiarity with the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) and MYP/DP an advantage

• Strong understanding of children’s and young adult literature

• Proficiency with library systems, especially Koha is beneficial

• Fluent English speaker; additional languages are a plus

• Excellent communication, organization, and collaboration skills

• Commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive learning environment
